2022 was a year highlighted by an ever-changing macroeconomic backdrop, creating uncertainty and volatility; throughout the year, the theme we saw most at Sageview was a shift back to basics, e.g., a renewed focus on capital efficiency, unit economics, company fundamentals, and multiples based on rigorous financial analysis. However, for us, this was nothing new.
We’d be remiss to say that there weren’t challenges throughout the year; however, having grounded our investment strategy from the beginning on company fundamentals, founder fit, value creation opportunities, growth potential, and fair entry valuations, our strategy held up well and remained unchanged. Our portfolio companies showed resiliency and continued to see solid growth. With our concentrated portfolio approach, we had the time and resources to help guide our current portfolio companies and identify exciting new opportunities.
We are incredibly grateful for our new platform investments, significant follow-ons, promotions & new hires, accolades achieved, and portfolio news, which highlight the year’s productivity, as you’ll see below. We’re especially grateful for the new relationships we’ve built with terrific founders and CEOs.
2023 will bring exciting opportunities to build new partnerships with entrepreneurs and investors. Challenging times and market corrections can bring about some of the best investment opportunities, so we look forward to the year ahead.
“Sageview stood out as a great partner for several reasons. First, they developed a deep understanding of our market and business, including insights and suggestions we are already implementing. Second, during the fundraising process, they continuously made decisions that showed they wanted to do right by our customers, employees, and existing investors. Finally, they have a track record of scaling businesses into category leaders. We’re excited to leverage their extensive experience as we partner to grow User Interviews together.”
Basel Fakhoury, Co-Founder & CEO of User Interviews
“Sageview’s approach during Elemental’s fundraising process was thorough and transparent. Their level of effort to truly understand our business was evident throughout, and their track record of successfully scaling companies like ours was pivotal in our decision to choose to work with them. Sageview’s impact has been felt immediately, especially regarding our go-to-market approach, and we look forward to continuing to benefit from their engagement.”
